The Tuktoyaktuk Winter Road is an ice road that connects the Northwest Territories communities of Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk in Canada. It is open to traffic only during the winter (December to March) when the water of the Mackenzie River Delta freezes tracing a natural road over the length of the river and parts of the Arctic Ocean. During summer the road melts and forms a flowing river. During this season the village of Tuktoyaktuk can be reached only by plane or boat.

A dog, "Leao", sits for a second consecutive day, next to the grave of her owner, Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who died in the week's catastrophic landslides in Brazil, at the cemetery in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janiero, on Jan. 15. Brazilians braced for more rain Saturday, fearing further landslides after walls of muddy water tore through towns and claimed some 550 lives in the country's worst flood disaster on record.

This fish may look like a crocodile, but it's not one. This monster fish is called the alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula) and it is a primitive ray-finned fish. The alligator gar is the largest exclusively freshwater fish found in North America, measuring eight to ten feet and weighing at least 200 lb (91 kg) at maturity. The current world record for the largest Alligator Gar caught on rod and reel is 279 lb (127 kg). The fish is also known for its ability to survive outside the water, being able to last for up to two hours above the surface.
