It fell for about 40 seconds. That works out to about 7800 meters for free fall in vacuum. However, it's less than that since it was bouncing off of the sides of the pipe, it was encountering considerable air resistance in the confined pipe, and due to the limited speed of sound, it took several seconds for the sound of the impact to reach the surface. so call it ~5000 meters.
The Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia is 12,000 meters.
