As of May 8th, the "Beast" , as it's now being called. Has consumed 160000 hectares ( or 395368 acres of land and shows no signs of slowing. As an Albertan, I am relieved that over 80000 people were evacuated with no loss of life. To give a scale of the destruction, think of Oklahoma City (617 sq miles and the 8th largest us city) completely burned. Imagine trying to evacuate the population of Suffolk, Virginia at a moments notice. My hats off to all first responders involved.

That's very terrifying ... I could see people panicking very easily in a situation like that.
