At 44 seconds he racks the slide back, I'm guessing there was a loaded magazine in the weapon.

Nick has it right. treated as ALWAYS loaded, clear and safe the weapon first, and why in the hell was there a round chambered in a weapon in the showcase anyway??? Stupid on both sides.
