15 $799 .... I pay , w/all fees and taxes, just $5.44 a month and I have
unlimited, state (Alaska) wide calling and unlimited (North America wide) texting.
and I get a new, free, phone every year .... man, we've come a long way

They had their advantages even once "regular" phones came out. They were way more powerful and didn't suffer from drop out that was a big issue with the early handsets. Because you didn't hold the transmitter close to your head they were much more powerful and got better reception. Panasonic's were the best back then and the battery would last all day.
