In 1984 I worked for an Apple dealer, and the Apple IIe is the machine that stopped me owning a computer for the next 15 years.

On the week that I have actually purchased an Apple product, Steve Jobs dies.

The world is a strange place. And with his passing, maybe less imaginative. A sad day.

I don't think that someone like Steve is going to show up in the world for a long period of time... R.I.P. Steve Jobs (hopefully he's creating new things in heaven now!)

While not a fan of Apple due to price point vs PCs, I respected Steve Jobs as a man of vision... Manifested in his products was that technology can be fun, approachable, and cool.

I think you are very knoble Jimmy because I totally agree with you about the price thing. But I can't find a good thing to say about a man who built his fortune by preying on the feeble-minded and easily influenceable. Like Satan he did deliver a good product, but made you sell your soul for it. Sorry Steve, no respect here, alive or dead.

apari - I can see your point, even agree to some extent, however this isn't the time to knock the man. I've talked plenty of trash about Apple in regards to their marketing and continued costs of ownership by having to pay for apps and such.

Steve Jobs knew Apple would never have the market penetration of MicroSoft. Apple has never achieved more than 5 - 6% market share. His strategy was to maximize profits per unit by selling the brand as a higher-end device.

Whether it delivered or not, that marketing strategy pushed other device manufacturers to create better quality phones. Look at all the copy-cat phone styles that came after the iPhone. Steve Jobs' contribution wasn't just to Apple, but the personal device industry for everyone.
