Fucking barbaric. It's still alive, and reacting from the pain of being scalded with steaming hot sauce, just for someone's dining delight. If people knew how intelligent these creatures really are, they would see this for the horrific act of animal cruelty that it is. Bastards.

Not to burst your bubble... Drag netting catches whales, dolphins and sea turtles in their lines so you can have your precious canned tuna, lobster and crab.

Just because something isn't killed in front of you doesn't mean you didn't have some part in the economics of slaughter. Where do you think your hamburger and prime rib comes from... trees?

Have fun eating your hippocritic celery root, it must taste like crow.

Jimmy, there is a big difference between killing and torturing a living creature. I bet it would have tasted just the same if they had killed it first moments before. Wouldn't you think? metalpig71 is right. It's barbaric and unnecessary.

I just read about it. The cut off the head of the squid, after that the squid is dead and its central nervous system is completely cut off. So it does not suffer at all. Its the same reaction any animal, chicken, goat, cow or rabbit has after it is killed humanily. The nervous systme still works for a little while longer. After it moves around the chef takes it and cuts it into sushi pieces. So yes i would eat it after it was cut up. However, I could do without the freaky soy sauce show.

You just don't understand another culture, so you'd rather label it as barbaric instead of being open to different cultures and ideas...

The point of this type of table service is to demonstrate the freshness of the food. It says the restaraunt cares about food freshness and quality. The diner wouldn't know otherwise if the squid was killed 8 hours ago if it's not alive. In seafood like shrimp, lobster, scallop, oysters, squid, and octopus, toxins build up immediatley once it's dead.

Asian countries like Japan and Korea don't have the benefit of land to farm cattle. Even China has problems due to the arid nature of the land to grow crops to feed cattle. They rely on seafood for their protein requirements.

disgusting. the thing has enough of a mind to leave the bowl cause it knows it's about to be eaten. what ever happened to loving gods little creatures instead of torturing them. how could someone do something like this. and i'm a vegetarian so don't bitch about my hypocrisy.
this is blatant animal abuse and someday people will answer for doing shit like this.
