, There is a famous experiment where a bunch of people dance or fight and in the middle a guy in a gorilla suit walks by. Nobody in the test group noticed him because they were focused on the action. I guess I didn't notice the dog for the same reason.

I noticed the dog the immediately. It would have been less obvious if I had to count something e.g. the other gorilla suit experiment where the test persons had to count the points scored by one team during a game (when suddenly the gorilla ran through the scene). That distracts you more.

, it could be a high school experiment along the same lines. It seems to me that fighting is more of a distraction than counting. I suppose you had to be there.
