It appears that the sequences that look like the camera is firing a projectile into the subjects are not real. The lens is real.

They have a Kickstarter campaign that has raised $943,771 of their original $9,998 goal, with 3 days left as of August 28, 2018, so it also appears there is a lot of interest in it.
