I have the opposite problem. I am 33, and people mistake me for a child. I am short (5'0") and have a youthful 'baby' face. My husband is 12 years older than me, but he looks younger than other 45 year olds. So...we kind of match up :-) (Ok, he does still look noticeably older than me, but not as bad as it could be if he looked old for his age). Anyway, I've had people think that my son (who is 12) is my brother. He is the exact same height as me now too.

SO....moral of the story...if you look anything other than 'the norm' people are uncomfortable with it. If I was the same age I am now, but looked 20 years older instead of younger, people would still have a 'oh my god, really?' reaction when they found out my real age. This girl may wish she had my problem, but really, either way, it sucks.
