Every one of these that has "client" in it failed because of the developer. 30% of a developer's job is to guide the client through requirements gathering by asking the right questions; keeping the project on track using something like the Agile system; setting the client's expectations and keeping them updated; and creating a tight contract that defines exactly what both parties' responsibilities are. They should have used the word "customer" instead of "client."

All of these fails are exactly because "muggles don't understand this." They shouldn't have to understand it. That's the developer's job.

FYI: I make a very, very good living doing this exact thing, in a very fulfilling job that I love, for clients who appreciate the work I do for them.
