A new restaurant in Los Angeles is called Homegirl Cafe.
It would be a usual place if not for one detail.
The girls who work there are formerly gang involved young women.
And maybe this job will be a second chance for some of them.

As altruistic as this idea may be, I'd still like to know what these girls are being paid. I'd open a restaurant too if I could get free labor just so my employees can build their resumes/ work experience.

Maybe I'm becoming more of a cynic these days but I suspect this may just be the "legit" front for a more lucrative operation. It's the perfect cover; you get non-profit status and a revolving door for experienced hoods for your, ahem, side business.
