The Pioneer Cabin Tree was an iconic giant sequoia tree in California’s Sierra Nevada and it was famous for having a tunnel in the middle of it. The tree was believed to have been more than 1,000 years old, but the tree finally met its end when it was taken out by a powerful storm that caused it to topple over.

The tree was dead long before they did that, so it was actually only a matter of time until the dead trunk falls.

I suspect the whole CUTTING A HUGE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TREE'S SUPPORT STRUCTURE had nothing to do with it.
