It's a VW so these are actually Lug Bolts. Not wheel studs with lug nuts.
I wrenched professionally for more than a decade and can tell you that
I have always hated lug bolts. They can be very stubborn indeed. In the
past, I've loosened the others and then driven around slowly till the last one
managed to free itself up or simply snap.

He should cut the other four spokes. Then he'll have he wheel off and he can get down to the job of removing the Lug Bolts. lol

Whatever made him think he was solving anything by cutting that spoke off?
