Photographer Antonino Savojardo recently took a trip to the heart of Sicily to take some pictures of the salt mines on the island. He managed to capture some very impressive photos that show the world a look at something that people normally wouldn't have access to.

I thought that in salt mines they're just pumping water inside the caves, taking water outside and than evaporate it to get salt.

I remember when I lived in Ohio seeing videos on how deep and huge the salt mines under Lake Erie are. 1,800ft.+. They were shut down because they opened up such an insanely huge cavern underground it's feared it will collapse and empty most of Lake Erie. Crazy.
Ontario, Canada has the largest underground salt mine in the world.

A massive undertaking. Sicily is made out of salt.

Nothing to do with sinkholes. Most of those appear due to completely different reasons.

Anyway, check out Salina Turda in Romania. Huge chambers from a salt mine 2000 years old used as a museum and now big tourist attraction with a lake and a sort of fun underground park.

Here it is https://vimeo.com/57143945

Also, does breathing salt help lung health?
