Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" is often considered a classic but a school in Philadelphia has decided to drop the book from 11th grade classes. The book is out of date and features the "n-word" which is why the school has decided that it no longer makes sense to teach it to kids.

It's a pretty sad world when people are too stupid to face the realities of their own history because it makes them 'uncomfortable'.

These are 11th graders, ie 17 year-olds. People that in one year will be old enough to be soldiers and to vote. But they're too 'hurt' by an historical classic of literature that accurately reproduces the literature of the time?*

*and which, by the way, is 75% of the lyrics in pretty much every hip-hop/rap song ever written

So a book from the 19th century, demonstrating attitudes of the time, is now being removed from the school curriculum because it no longer fits with 21st century society. I fail to see what the story is exactly. It's not as if the book is being banned altogether. These kids are still free to go out and get a copy - and as the text out of copyright it doesn't even cost you to find and download it.
