This Google employee just couldn't get ahead with his student loans thanks to his high rent. So he took the cost of rent out of his budget by purchasing a truck, parking it in the Google parking lot and moving in.

Brandon is a 23 year old software engineer at Google who decided that he was tired of paying rental on an apartment ($2,000 per month) that he was hardly ever at so he bought a $10,000 16-foot 2006 Ford with 157,000 miles on it , which he parks on the Google premises and which doubles as his home. He eats and showers in the building and is able to save almost 90% of his monthly salary by cutting his living costs so dramatically.

“I realized I was paying an exorbitant amount of money for the apartment I was staying in — and I was almost never home. It’s really hard to justify throwing that kind of money away. You’re essentially burning it — you’re not putting equity in anything and you’re not building it up for a future — and that was really hard for me to reconcile,” says Brandon.

Because he is saving so much money, Brandon expects to payoff his $22,434 in student loans within the next 6 months. Brandon isn’t sure how much longer he wants to live in the truck. For now it’s working out perfectly and doesn’t see himself moving out any time soon.

what a loser. He could die tomorrow and he would have lived like that. What is the use of saving that much if you aint living and enjoying life to a degree

so, a business is going to allow one of their employees to use the premises as a home, AND allow the truck to stay parked in their lot....bit of a stretch. He spent 5 months of rent for a truck...why not get a smaller place, or a room mate and take that 5 months towards loan payments?

So when hes done with the truck he can sell it and get back some of his money, unlike an aprtment. And for 2k a month I bet his apartment is no more than a closet, so a room mate might be a bit cramped. Before you make assumptions, it might be a good idea to walk in the persons shoes.

I am paying $960/mo incl. additional fees for a rent of a nice, clean studium equipped with AC. Even brand new furniture and dishes included. Also free parking lot just a few steps from home doors Reading, PA. Not gonna change with a truck.
