Jason and Elaine have been addicted to black-tar heroin since 2007.
They live in a bedroom of a house they share with elderly family members.
They spend every day looking for money to buy heroin to shoot up twice a day.
Black tar heroin is a variety of heroin produced primarily in Mexico.

412,
They live with an elderly couple... they probly paid for that stuff.

But anyways to all of yall judgin these people, listen to that song "what it's like" by everlast. 'Cause I gaurentee you have the perspective of an onlooker into a snowglobe. You know nothing about what it's like in the globe but you see all the stuff goin on so you think you know something. Well I'll be the first to tell you that you don't know SHIT but I hope it stays that way, just stop judging people; cause your often the person pushing people onto the ledge their about to leap off of.

I Lost one of the best friends I ever had to an overdose who was sober for 10 years. He went from street to 400k year after he got sober. Many people would be suprised to see who some heroin addicts are. In a second it was all gone because he died of an overdose. Heavy stuff.

snaf,

An illness? Like "sorry, I've come down with an addiction, I can't come in to work today." Or "would you believe went out in the rain without a coat or umbrella and I caught an addiction!" Seriously, it is called personal responsibility. Check it out sometime.

We don't know anything about it... thats their choice, and they have to live or die with it. Don't pity them, most drug users(weed doesn't count) are faced with the facts before hand, but go on and try it anyways and thats just the results. Only some have the will power to say no from the get go. ABOVE THE INFLUENCE.

meh,

it is true, it is not like other illness, which can be charted and then cured by a pill or a surgeon. but addicts have lost control and tus the capacity for rational
choice.
Its a mind illness, like you dont say "sorry, i've woke up with squizophrenia, i can't come in to work today" or "would you belive went out in the rain without a coat and i caught a depression"
It has physical and psiquical sympoms, there are special doctors, hospitals, treatments, medicines...
if its not an illness it looks like it

snaf,

Addiction itself isn't an illness, it is a result of poor choices. You said "addicts have lost control and tus the capacity for rational choice." They gave up control when they first made the choice to use. Granted, this may be in part due to a psychological condition, but the addiction itself remains a consequence of poor decisions; not an illness. Calling it an illness obfuscates responsibility.
