During the Great depression, on vacant lots, on public lands in the empty lanes, the unemployed built huts and shacks made of wood and metal. In America, these villages were called Hoovervilles, after President Hoover, during the presidency of which there was a crash. Here are the pictures of Hooverville in New York's Central Park. It was a very popular place until 1940, when the economy and employment is largely recovered.

Interesting pictures. I will note, though, that this was only the case from 1929 to 1939, when the U. S. economy rose out of the "Great Depression." Meanwhile, from before then through today, this is everyday life for millions of people in other countries, including our own neighbor to the south, Mexico. In fact, this would probably be more equivalent to the better-off people in slums. These pictures show room to walk between the shacks, for example.

I'm gonna check out some spots to build on for the next bank failure coming. Are you aware that the banks that were to big to fail that we bailed out are even bigger now?
