These mysterious beach patterns are stunning to look at but scientists aren't quite sure how they're formed. One of the theories is that the patterns are created by incoming waves crashing against outgoing waves.

It looks a lot like an interference pattern. Note the cove is protected by a line of rocks with gaps that will split incoming waves into smaller waves.
