Honestly, only Eddie Van Halen has played good songs, great guy, the rest maybe have guitar skills but their songs are for old women.

Van Halen is probably the worst guitar player on this list. In my opinion, you have no concept of what is or is not a good song.

Sorry, I HAVE to say it... great list, greater explanations... but, ANYone how know ANYthing about music, knows for fact that there are no "greatest" in anything, much less 10 of them... Love many of your list although.

While not as technically proficient as some, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath needs to be given credit here. He's often cited by many guitarists in the heavy metal genre as the greatest influence of all time. That's over Jimi Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Angus Young, and everyone that came afterwards.

After losing the tips of 3 fingers on his left hand in an accident, he tuned down his guitars in order to make them easier to play. This turned out to be a stroke of genius, since it gave his style a much more sinister sound. His frequent use of trichords was also unique and very innovative.

Let's not forget, most of the guitar players listed here had little-to-no songwriting skill, excepting Page and Gilmour, and of course who knows what Rhodes could have done. So to me, this sets Iommi apart. He wrote some of the heaviest yet most melodic riffs in rock history. I'd put him not just in the top 10, but maybe even the top 5 rock guitar players of all time.
