A concerned passenger snapped this photo of an airport worker applying what looks to be duct tape to an EasyJet airplane minutes before take off. It may look like duct tape but it's actually known as speed tape and is said to be quite commonly used for small repairs on airplanes.

That's actually not duct tape. It aluminum tape. It is made from the same grade aluminum as the rest of the aircraft skin and very strong. It's use is FAA compliant. In this use there was probably a rivet found to be loose or missing. If there were more than 5 missing rivets missing or loose, in that assembly, the plane would have been grounded. Keep in mind, that's 5 out of 100+ rivets.
