You can't view functions as different "careers". Even at work, you may do different things everyday, but they do not breakdown your pay into each function. I do not doubt that your wife does a lot, your approach in research is broken. Then there's the question of what the hell are you doing? So you just sit on your @$$ when you get home?

Appreciate what your wife does, but over-valuing what is actually happening is never good.
