You've probably never noticed that these common words and expressions are making you say the same word twice.

ATM Machine - Do you realize that you are saying “machine” twice? That’s right – the M in ATM stands for machine. Cut it out.

Chai Tea - Chai means tea over most of the world. “Tea tea’? No.

2 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Rice Pilaf - Pilaf means rice ball. So don’t bother asking for’ rice rice’ next time.

3 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Ahi Tuna Fish - Ahi straight-up translates to tuna. Absolutely no point repeating yourself.

4 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Sahara Desert - Same thing here: Sahara means desert. It is an epic desert, but you don’t have to force the point.

5 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

PIN Number - You got it: the N in PIN stands for number. So, “enter your Personal Identification Number number” seems a little unnecessary.

6 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Panini Sandwich - A panini is a sandwich in Italy. So unless you want two of them, there’s nada reason for saying this.

7 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Naan Bread - When you order or refer to naan, just say that. It’s a type of bread, so don’t embarrass yourself by asking for bread bread.

8 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Veggie Soy - Yep, soy is vegetarian. Ain’t no such thing as soy meat. That’s the point. So don’t stumble on this one...

9 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Shrimp Scampi - You got it: scampi means shrimp. Don’t bother wasting a word on this one.

10 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Please RSVP - RSVP already has “please” in it. So what’s with asking “please reply please”? Sounds desperate.

11 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

3AM In The Morning - We all know that AM = morning. Save your breath a little.

12 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

LCD Display - “Liquid Crystal Display Display.” Forget it.

13 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Queso Cheese - Queso is Spanish for cheese. Don’t be cheezy. Say it once.

14 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

False Pretenses - When someone is putting on “pretenses”, they are being false. Just call it as it is.

15 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

La Brea Tar Pits - The Spanish name for the tar is La Brea. That means when are referring to ‘em, you’re saying “The The Tar Tar Pits.” Not in my house.

16 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Support Bra - Yep, a bra is for the support of your breasts. That is exactly why it is worn. Should go without saying.

17 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Carne Asada Steak - In the Spanish language, carne asada IS grilled steak. So don’t state the obvious.

18 Words You Didn't Know Were Making You Repeat Yourself (19 pics)

Los Angeles Angels - It doesn’t take a genius to work out that “Angeles” stands for angels in Spanish. Use your brain, save your time.

LED display is redundant, but LED display is perfectly correct.

Also, we have an institution around here named UMB Bank. Guess what the "B" stands for.

2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 16, 18 - The words no longer mean the literal translation, but rather point to a specific type of food that is more common in the country where the food originated. For example:

Chai tea refers to the tea, whereas there is also a chai latte, so it helps to be specific.
Scampi may translate to shrimp, but in english it is a specific set of shrimp, whereas shrimp scampi is a dish.
Place names shouldnt need explanation as to why you dont translate them literally.

This was absolutely stupid.

I get it when you talk about the ATM but if you're using the word in another language it's fine to me.

Many of these are used because you want to be a bit more specific like "support bra" is a specific type and not a regular bra.

Truly made me angry.
