8 - The woman selling rosemary
Happened to me in seville. Old woman approached me and grabbed my hand shoved a rosemary twig in it and started talking about my fortune, while i was trying to say no and pull my hand away. She demanded money and i said i only had notes, so no. I got into an argument, but then gave her a note as i noticed a large congregation of gypsies starting to hang around the area and stare at me.

Sometimes you are better off giving in to the scam......

The dropped ring has been tried on me in Paris but I didn't even stop as I was in a hurry. I didn't know about that scam, I didn't even know it was one. I thought about it on the way to my hotel and looked online to discover what I had just escaped.

Not the worst scam you can encounter though, some friend of mine was travelling in an asian country and followed a nice girl(what a fool) to some karaoke on the opposite side of the city. When they were in the room, she left to go to the toilet and 2 men came in, asking politely for a huge amount of money to pay the rent of the room. He tried to escape but 5 more guys were waiting outside and came in the room to help. They began to be agressive, threatening but they didn't seem to want to hit him. He didn't have a lot of money in his pockets but they stole his hotel room card(with the name of the hotel and the room number) and kicked him out.
By the time he got back to his hotel, they had taken everything valuable: laptop, camera, ...
