The Mursi tribe is a tribe of cattle herders.
But the most interesting part about these people is their lips.
Take a look.
Those holes are huge...

Actually this practice has started to fade..the next generation is not following tradition. A lot of them are entering''normal

Yeah, the censoring, not necessary. And in response to "ptp"...it is a completely different culture than a lot of us are used to. For men, it is a rank in society. The bigger the plate the higher the rank. It is seen as an expression of adulthood for both women and men.

Strange, funky, and ultimately a little unhealthy. People are weird. (But fascinating.)

There are actually many different reasons that lip-plating, stretching of the ears, septums etc is practiced. Many different groups of people have been doing it for thousands of years completely independent of each other. So yes, it is aesthetic, and/or for social class or to show power etc. but please don't call the mursi freaks. They and many others have been doing this long before you or your culture was a blip on the map

Unlike some other pastoralist African tribes, the Mursi are sedentary rather than nomadic. The language of the Mursi is in the Nilo-Saharan linguistic family rather than being in the Afro-Asiatic language family as is Amharic, the official Ethiopian language.
