Wouldn't it be cool if someone created an inflatable airplane? Yes it would be cool, that's why Goodyear already did it. During World War II the United States military was trying to find a way to solve the problem of soldiers having their plane attacked and then falling to their death. The answer was the inflatable plane.

The story I heard was that these aircraft were made to be dropped to a downed pilot. He could then fly himself out.

So soldiers who were attacked on an airplane would then jump out of that broken airplane, inflate that inflatable plane while falling to the ground and then sail away?
How about somebody just invented a story to go with a bunch of old photos?
