Its true that i live in a 3rd world coutry, yes we have alot of problems, but damn in my country an act like this is nothing really special, grats to this police women, its great from here, but here, you can't really starve, if you ask for food and people see you have childrens, you will have food no problem.

People here sometimes are rude, they dont smile, but when it comes to food or water, you can't starve, you just have to ask

Well, technically the officer could be prosecuted for not enforcing the law and letting the criminal escape. It was ruled by a US court that the police are there to enforce laws, not help the people.

Luckily there are still some police officers blessed with common sense!

Sensible officer. Saw that the woman was acting in desparation and helped fix the problem rather than rote obedience to the law. Nice to see the community step up and help out too.

Aindy,

Police officers have a substantial amount of discretion in their jobs. Not everyone deserves to be issued a ticket or taken to jail for every single crime committed. Your viewpoint is exactly why we spend more on the prison system than we do on virtually anything else. I personally think the police officer made the best decision possible. You should ask yourself, what situation is it that we have created where people need to steal to feed children?
