no it doesn't taste as bad as it looks. it's just pure salty goodness.
westerners should consider extending their palettes to these delicacies. if you only judge taste by it's looks you're just missing out alot in this world.

im open to trying things. but that sorta extends my limits by its looks.

The white takes on a gelatin consistency - it's purely texture. The yolk is stronger tasting, but no worse than capers or anchovies. It's quite good in congee. There are lots of food in different cultures that are delicacies that seem disgusting - maggoty cheese, haggis, caviar, etc.

It actually tastes amazing with soybean paste and congee. It looks crazy but it's definitely better than balut, at least it doesn't have a grown fetus in it! hahah
