i don't know how old this article is but ebay has protection and so does paypal, and they work pretty well in my experience

#6/7 - No Bank will EVER ask you for account information by email. The reason is written there: too easy to make fake mails that look like the real thing. Hence, Banks dont send emails, they send mail.
