It was successful !!! damn, they took the decision that they should take a decision in january when not all the world will have eyes on them, so they can do their shit as they want, and not as public opinion wants !!! that's a great step ! don't you think . ho, and by the way, the climate issue is known by scientist since the early 80's and wathever is done now, it's too late ! We cant' reverse the process, we can at least slow it, but whatever we do ... we're done ! yes WE are done !!! not the planet ! the planet fears no danger, it will continue turning around the sun with or without us ! we are condemned, not the planet !!! we are destroying ourselves, but cockroaches will survive dont' worry !!! It's a question a centuries maybe, but in less than 30 years we'll already be in a deep shit, not the one that will kill us, but the one that won't allow us to live as our ancestors lived !we'll have to live with the fear of elements ! well, the poorest one, because rich people will always have solutions to live peacefully !! So let's continue to let those assholes take the decisions and see you in january ... if you don't hear anything in january about cop15, it's normal, don't worry, it has to be done discreetly !!! shhhhh
good luck to all those who live on islands and are already disappearing !

yes that's why you can prove it's a hoax !!!! No you can't ? I can prove that it's reality, so stop saying this shit and inform yourself instead of repeating words you dont' even understand just because they seem appropriate to put yourself on the light !!! Another douchebag who thinks his position is more important than the truth !
you'll be fucked up in 30 years and I won't laugh unfotunately, because we'll all be !
"global warming is a hoax" ....can't believe I am reading this !

climate change is a very serious issue. did you know the reason the earth came out of a major ice age is all the carbon dioxide and other gasses spewed from volcanoes over hundreds of years, which warmed the planet melted ice andhelped form our current atmosphere. Also, plants turned much CO2 into oxygen, once the warming was starting and life could again reach the surface. So CO2 may not be the only contributor to warming and greenhouse gas, but it's the biggest polluter and easiest to control at this point. I'm sorry so many people are short sighted and selfish, but I'd rather have a slightly higher cost of living than allow this shit to go on and fuck our planet up. I'd like to hear some climate change denier to explain ice melting (glaciers + ice caps are receding by tens of miles), and explain how the massive magnitude of it going on is not related to an increase in heat (phase changing ice to water absorbs a TON of heat). I'm no "go green" maniac but I see our pollution as extremely irrisponsible and downright dangerous, and all for naught. There's so, so, so many industries that can easily reduce the CO2 emissions, and not to mention there's a lot of potential USES for anything captured. CO2 can be used to make plastics... and while plastics aren't good as garbage, it can be recycled. All I gotta say is, Fuck you, climate change deniers. You're as bad as christians.

Switching to all caps, writing without indentation and including lots of exclamation points are sure argument winners. Good work.

1. Yes, the climate IS indeed changing. However, it's course more closely corresponds to the sun's cycle than the amount of CO2 on earth. So while the ice caps are melting, your SUV's impact is a drop in the bucket compared to the solar impact. These cycles have been going on long before man, and will continue after we are gone.
2. Manufacturing (and even recycling) plastics produces a huge amount of toxic byproducts. At least wood & paper are renewable, recyclable, and don't produce more byproducts than plastic.
3. "I'd rather have a slightly higher cost of living..." - Which is what the entire "hoax" theory is based on: people will willingly part with more of their money if they think it's going to a "good cause" and makes them feel better. How many charities have made the news because the funds weren't going where they were supposed to? You may also want to note: Al Gore set up an energy credit system *before* his movie came out. Maybe coincidence, but it's common practice for companies to promote their services (ie: the star wars franchise) before a new offering, in order to drum up business in advance.
Bottom Line: Yes, the planet is warming. But there is no definitive proof for either side of the fence as to the cause, so misguided rants & name calling only serve to weaken your position.

lazybuym: 1) You can't call them cycles, since there's it's always different. We don't have periodic ice ages and hot ages, but they do happen (for some reason... like greenhouse gas levels changing or high solar flare activity). Also, we're in a low spot for flare activity right now so if there is any warming already, it can only get worse. Also, from my research there is no conclusive correlation between sun radation levels and Earth's biggest climate changes, while there is evidence of low points and high points of CO2 saturation very close to these time periods, often precluding the change by less than a century.
2) truth about plastics, but wood and paper, while being "renewable" must be renewed by regrowth, and we're not doing that; instead, we're chopping down vast amounts of forest for farmland so our tree volume is going one way: down. In theory we could even it out but that would require regulation (like we need on oil) and I bet the hoax-cryers will come out then too.
3)So it's a hoax because people are willing to pay to do something good (including paying more money)... if that's a valid reason to call something a hoax then I call "hoax" on charities. Also you missed the point that CO2 is the easiest to control, not to mention there's a nice easy, natural way to get rid of it: photosynthesis. Too bad we're chopping down all the trees and polluting the oceans (algae plays a huge role in global photosynthesis) and creating way, way, way more CO2 than the Earch could possibly cope with. And I'm not saying it's efficient, but that's how the Earth got an oxygene rich atmosphere to begin with so clearly it's working. (note: some theories are that, at least water, came from comets. Could be, but we know there's been no significant impacts for hundreds of thousands of years so something else is going on - plant life)
Bottom line: Yes, the planet is warming and we've got to regulate this. Not sure what magic proof you want (would it help if god told someone via burning bush that we're fucking our shit up again? -says the athiest). There's no evidence that what's happening is 'natural', which really doesn't matter since nature isn't good or bad, therefore what it does is not exactly in anyone's interest - ours or the planet's. We know atmosphere affects climate and that Earth is very, very unique. We all know that climate can change, and can change in very bad and dramatic ways so let's do what we can to avoid this and maintain the perfect climate we have (yes, subjective analysis but we already know too hot and too cold is bad).

lazybuym,
i agree with points 1 and two and the cylcle of the sun, which is entering another 11 year phase does drive climate changes...with or without man the earth goes thru DRASTIC change and while i would not call global warming a hoax, I do not believe it is souly responsible for the drastic changes in our wheather, I do know that some of it is exaggerated so the gov.can get in the biz of selliing carbon credits.

For my totally off the wall thought.........Does anyone besides me think that the most damage caused by man was over 20 years of hundreds of nuclear testing"" I mean c'mon tell me that didn't rip some of the ozone out of the atmosphere?

I am glad to see passionate and smart debate by all of you guys instead of all smiley faces.
