I think the idea is that there are no exposed cake surfaces to dry out and go stale. After every cut, the cake can be pushed back together so it is completely sealed by the frosting. :04:

I get the idea, but it still stands that if you are sharing a cake, then no one would get equal slices. If you are eating the whole thing by yourself, then this is fine. But seriously, if you're eating a whole cake by yourself something tells me you aren't going to be leaving around enough for it to get stale... You'd probably just get a cupcake.
