5" Naval gun? Small potatoes compared to the battleship Yamamoto's 18" guns or the Nazi Schwerer Gustav 31" railway gun. The Schwerer Gustav could heave 4,800 kg (10,600 lb) shells 48 km (30 mi) and make a crater 9.1 m (30 ft) wide x 9.1 m (30 ft) deep.

capt.huffnpuff,
My thoughts exactly.
5" naval gun definitely doesn't belong to the 'most powerful machines ever built'. 5" gun was (in pre-missile era) main armament of small-to-mid-size ships such as destroyers and some kind of second-tier weaponry on bigger ships. Light cruisers used to have 152 mm (6") main guns, heavy cruisers - 203 mm (8") ones. The largest and heaviest armament was mounted on battle cruisers and battleships - these guns had up to 406 mm (16") in Western navies and 460 mm (16,1") in Imperial Japaneese Navy. When compared to these mammoths, 5" gun looks like a pea-shooter.

#7 is the engine for F15's and F16's (that picture is in the "hothouse" a building designed to test the engine after repairs...'loud' isnt even the word..) the F35 engine is an incredible machine.

Some very nice stuff here! :04:
