in #29 at the rigth bottom you can see the spine of a skeleton, they had eaten. Hard time they went into... :S

Mainly it's the terrible pay, forced residence in the factory (rent for which is taken out of their pay), incredibly long hours or tedious, mind-numbing work.

Basically they're slaves, but with a nominal paycheck so they don't technically count as slaves.
