As everyone remembers, Yoda is a well known figure in the Senate Chamber

E.T. creatures exist in Star Wars (they can be seen clearly in the Senate Chamber in Episode II), it’s reasonable to assume they know Yoda

In E.T., one of them comes to Earth and meets a young boy, Elliot

Elliot plays with Star Wars toys, which is kinda weird

E.T. meets a kid who’s dressed up as Yoda for Halloween… and recognizes him

E.T. says, “home… home…”

It’s reasonable to assume that E.T. can make bikes and toys fly by using the force. Which must mean…

E.T. IS A JEDI!

He is not a Jedi, he can't fight, he doesn't know how to protect himself in front of humans (and there is no reason for him to be afraid of us, since our specie is well represented and well-known in his home galaxy) with his suggestion power, "This is not the extra-terrestrial we're looking for.".

But there is creatures, in the Star Wars universe, which can kinda interplay with the Force without being jedis (for example midichlorians, jedis before their training, or even the planet Dagobah).

Thus E.T. is from one of those species, the "children of the green planet", but not a jedi.
