Sidereal day - except, nobody USES a sidereal day except astronomers. PEOPLE use a synodic day - the time it takes (essentially) for the earth to rotate until the sun is at the same point. Since the earth is moving with the rotation, this is a little more than 360 degrees, ergo, 24 hours.
