Yes, they really did have electrified streetcars and buses in L.A. - until the automakers and oil companies wanted to increase their profits. (Part of "Roger Rabbit" was based on reality!) . The smog really did not get bad until the cars and freeways took over. Instead of waiting for the streetcar, they now wait in traffic jams on the freeway while big auto/oil laugh all the way to the bank.

This Sunday (22d), will be the 60th Anniversary of L.A.'s famous "4-Level Interchange" (aka: the Bill Keene Memorial Interchange) (it was featured in the opening of the TV show 'CHiPs')

It was the FIRST 'stacked' interchange to be built in the world...AND the most expensive 1/2-mile stretch of highway in the world at the time (costing 5.5 Million US Dollars then).
