Im guessing she dove head first into the water with her mask on. And they are only snorkeling not SCUBA diving.

She had her mask on too tight. It's called "Mask Squeeze". The negative pressure of the tight fitting mask sucks your eyeballs out and pops the blood vessels. It looks worse than it is. It usually clears in a week.

She failed to equalize the air in the mask restricting the blood flow around the eye when the water pressure increases as she dives deeper.Reduced pressure in the mask causes the capilaries in the sclera to burst, giving an incredibly bloodshot eye. This is what we normally call "Mask Squeeze" . One very simple steps to prevent it is to made small exhalation through the nose when you start to feel that the mask sucks on your face.

One last point to note, never over tighten the mask. Just let it sit on your face. The water pressure will hold it in place.

i saw this when i was diving in mexico.. she don't equalize her air space in her mask..

looks scary and badly injured, but isnt serious..

My mate did this by being sick....blew all the blood vessels in his eyes and nose...after he stopped throwing up he had an epic nose bleed and looked like he had been possessed....
