The vivid colors brings back memories of when I made models of aircraft carriers, battleships, Tiger tanks, Spitfires, Mustangs, P38 Lightnings and Messerschmitts.

WW2 shaped the world we know today.

#26 Truly sad. My mom remembers when some of her ethnic Japanese friends in high school on the west coast were taken from their homes and sent to camps. 112,000. Most of them (80,000) were Nisei and Sansei, born in the US and American citizens. Not one was ever charged with a crime against the US. The US government paid more than 1.6 billion dollars in reparations and compensation - too little to late.

One of the most famous camps was Mansanar, CA, which is now a national historic landmark in honor of those that were interred there. I dated a girl for a while who was born in Manzanar. Her son graduated from the US military academy.

Many ethnic Japanese served in the US in Europe and were highly decorated. Mike Honda, who was interred in a camp, is now a representative from CA in the US congress. Norm Mineta, also interred, served on the cabinets of both Bush and Clinton. The San Jose/Silicon Valley airport is name for him.
