#11 I would suggest that posing with the Statue of Liberty with their arm upraised has real meaning for a lot of immigrants. Rather than being trite, it is symbolic of arriving in a new country with new hopes. At its base is the poem, "New Colossus", which says in part, "Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free". The girl may well be celebrating her hope for freedom.
