There's a fun run, "Bay to Breakers", in San Francisco with the same type of crazy costumes. In fact, it is one of the largest foot races in the world with over 100,000 participants. Costumes range from the elaborate to the just plain weird to no costume (or clothes) at all. Google "Bay to Breakers costumes" and look at the images.
