F-35 will replace the F-18

Interesting history, the F-18 started out as the YF-17, it was a competitor to the F-16 for a U.S. Air Force contract. The F-16 won. The Navy and Marines liked the YF-17, however, especially because it had twin engines. After further development it was re-designated the A/F-18 Hornet.
