micky mike> the edge of the universe is either 50 km or 50 miles or 100 km - as you prefer ( it's different, I know )

V-2 rocket ( World War II ) was able to reach up to 85 km .... from space does not necessarily means from the orbit

and btw:
- some high-altitude balloons could reach more than 50 km ( but not in 1946 ) - that's almost space as well
- some fighter jets ( like Su-27, Su-33, Mig-29, Mig-25, Mig-31 and more ) could reach cca 40 km - where the sky above is black and sky below is blue ...
