75 luxury houses were burned down during a recent fire in Johannesburg, South Africa. Each building costs over 2 million US dollars. It seems like someone has put one house on fire and the fire has spread across the rest of them.

This fire didn't happen in Johannesburg. It happened in St. Francis in the Eastern Cape. It is a town close to ours.

The reason the fire leaped over the water was we had gale force winds and bits of burning thatch was blown onto other houses.

The person that started did so accidentally. He had a braai (BBQ) going and the wind caused it to ignite the roof.

A friend of mine lost his holiday house there.

Warzazat,

They are holiday houses in quite an expensive area. Not so much luxury as location. The property value is high.

It is on the ocean with canals feeding from a river and just outside one of our 'larger' cities.
