I am British i have never heard of a white cat as being unlucky
Some Brits do think a black cat walking in front of you is good luck

White cats are NOT unlucky in Britland.
It's the black ones - the US inherited many Brit superstitions - there may be a small corner of weirdness where white cats are considered unlucky but the VAST majority only think black cats are tainted.
