seemed a little anti-dramatic to other 'exercises' I've seen ... still pretty neat

The ocean will be fine. They sink ships all the times.

They first drain all the fuel out of them so that they don't pollute the water. Then they sink them (usually using explosives, not a torpedo), and they sink and become wreaths over the next few decades. It's actually a very ecological way to dispose of an old ship. 04
