Too bad you get sent to prison for stupid shit here in the states. Things like smoking pot.

Instead of being a burden on taxpayers, why don't inmates do actual work that makes them minimum wage that businesses will pay for like drycleaning hotel linens or some such?

Shouldn't that be part of their sentence? Learning a work ethic might not be a bad thing in jail.

Part of the problem with the US jail system is that they closed the asylums and just moved the mental cases to jail. The country jail west(?) tower in downtown L.A. is the largest mental institution in the world. There is no recourse for many of those thrown out of hospitals but to take to the streets, end up in jail, or get shot by the police "because they acted in a threatening manner". Say what? How is a schizophrenic or a manic depressive or addict a criminal. An insane person acts insane? Surprise, surprise. Let's lock him up in Bedlam! Not!

I don't agree with providing exercise equipment. Why encourage them to be stronger and meaner so they can beat people more efficiently later?
