The Kopp-Etchells effect happens when blades of helicopter cause sparks.
It is a result of static electricity created by friction of helicopter blades and dust.
Usually it happens during the landing or taking off.
Named by Michael Yon, combat journalist, in memory of Corporal Benjamin Kopp and Corporal Joseph Etchells, who died in Afghanistan.
