Apparently some jerk named Ken St. Pierre seems to have "organized" it on Facbook. Participants are facing felony vandalism charges and the idiot put his name on it per NBC News 7 in San Diego. He is beneath contempt. So much for the use, or rather misuse, of social media. A bunch of unthinking sheep. 46

"Load your guns and join check out the 2nd Annual Midnight Water Gun Fight in Balboa Park, taking place on Saturday, August 11th, 2012. Meet at the large fountain in front of San Diego Natural History Museum at 11:45pm (near Park Blvd.). First "squirt" will be at the stroke of midnight and then it is a free-for-all of water gun madness!"

These idiots didn't even stop to consider how carefully treated that water is to support those plants and animals. A freshwater aquarium needs to have the proper level of nitrates, nitrites, ph and essential bacteria that is specifically cultured to that ponds' eco-system.

I've kept stingrays for 20 years. The 'municipal' water I use is stored in 5 gallon buckets to de-chlorinate. I then test it for ph and temperature before introducing it to my stingray tank. Something as simple as water that is too hot or too cold can cause shock and stress the fish where it's behaviour may change because it senses temperature as a change in season or some other condition. It may not eat, or begin to act aggressively to other fish, or even die... From a simple water change.

It's not like you can just turn on a tap and fill that pond back up.

Well done 'Ken' for that.

That park will take years to put right.

@Jimmy Johnson - thanks for that insight into how difiicult just the water chemistry will be to sort out. It puts it all into perspective.

Sad. Very sad.

Where were the park officials? It all comes down to bad management. Sometimes our so called 'free' countries take things too far. Without laws and strict discipline things like this happen. Somewhere down the line, somebody's going to pay for this crap.
