The custom of putting graphics on the front of planes started before WWII with the Flying Tigers. They were a voluntarySquad Flying against Japan for China. It started with painting the now famous Sharks mouth with exposed teeth on the front of P41's( i could be wrong on the number) any way it did work . When enemy troops on the ground saw the painted planes it was found that the trembled in horror Mostly because this was the first squad to fly as good and often times better than the much feared Zero planes by the Japanese. Disney actually designed a "flying Tiger" design for the Squad which the squad proudly painted behind the shark mouth graphic.
Just a little history for ya.

what a crack of shit that story is..
it all started with the chuukamachugaa native indians of kisamyassoe river .
they decorated their 1st planes with blood from the tyrannosaurs they kill on the day, so when they fought the ET`s of their time, they would not confuse their own planes to those of the Chapultepec air force.
or something like that.
